We simply love a weekend away – either long or short! Below is a list of our top weekends away, or just sort by the tag “Weekends away“. Note we fly out of Bankstown, Sydney.

2 – Milawa & the Brown Brothers Vinyard – while we haven’t done a blog on Milawa, it is an amazing fly in – airstrip is 50m from the cellar door and the restaurant is a gastronomic delight.
The core elements of a great weekend away by air?
- Have a reason. This may be to drink local wine, attend a country picnic race, eat at a great paddock to plate restaurant, or attend a local event. Having a reason, however trivial, gives you a story to help meet people along the way. People are more likely to help you out if you have a reason to be there – this maybe loaning you a car, giving you some insider tips, or simply including you in an event or welcoming you into the local area. Alternatively, don’t have a reason! Just be there because.
- Connect with people. Sometimes it is less where you go, and who you meet.
- Plan for 90% and let the other 10% work itself out. It’s a good idea to figure out where to eat/sleep and how to get around, but don’t underestimate people’s generosity and goodwill (many a car has been lent to us by strangers – I guess they figure you’ll come back for the plane!).
